VOLUNTEER INFORMATION
We are always interested in receiving volunteers to help organize and execute our projects based in Rocinha. Particularly, we will be looking for guest instructors to teach (and optionally live) in the favela of Rocinha. Most projects prefer volunteers who can be in Rocinha at least 1 month.
To find places to stay in the favela, we recommend guests to contact us about options as to what is currently available. Options currently consist of shared or private room in a guesthouse in the community. It's a great way to meet other volunteers and mix with locals. Most guests stay a minimum of 1 month but we have had volunteers here for up to 6 months. Please let us know how long you prefer to stay. The guesthouse is centrally located in a safe area. It has been reformed and is nice, clean and with all amenities including a washing machine, cable tv and internet.
We support many organizations in Rocinha for those who want to volunteer. There are no fees to volunteer. We are not an agency. All we do is help find projects where visitors can contribute their time in a constructive way.
We have contacts with projects that consist of Art, Music, Dance, Sports, Surfing, Daycare, Healthcare, Language Instruction, Eco-Gardening, Architecture, Photography & Filmmaking, Animal care and much more.
We are also open to you wanting to create your own project here. In the last year we have welcomed Make up Artists, Jugglers, Clowns and Magicians to help entertain the residents here. We also had one volunteer help create a recycling art project with some of the locals.
Please send us an email explaining a little about you and what you would like to accomplish here.
You will need provide own airfare, visas, food. We will introduce you to the project and help organize a schedule that fits your interest. Most volunteers in the past have worked 3-4 hours a day. Visiting Rio and Rocinha, it is important that you also have plenty of time to enjoy yourself and not just work. Depending on which project you work with, some basic Portuguese or Spanish is encouraged.
Theres a new Architecture project for those interest to volunteer with an Urban Development project in Rocinha but they require a minimum of 2 months stay.
